Indian Weightlifters Sustained Injuries In An Accident In US

While India was bursting with pride over the wins that the Indian weightlifters acquired in the Masters World Cup held in San Diego, winning gold and two silver, the same took a turn for the worse pretty soon.

The sportsmen met with an accident in the United States on October 08th, 2019, Tuesday night. Four of these Indian weightlifters were returning from the Grand Canyon, Arizona. The car they were travelling it crashed head first into another one of the cars, leaving three of them badly injured.

Colonel Jayant Sudhakar, Santokh Singh and Archana Jain were the three of the weightlifters who sustained serious injuries from the impact. Rajiv Sharma, on the other hand, was lucky enough to be able to handle the impact and leave unhurt from the scene.

It was Colonel Jayant Sudhakar as well as Rajiv Sharma who bagged the gold medals in their respective categories while the remaining two weightlifters did bag the silver prize.

In an issued statement, Sharma stated saying, “We had gone to Grand Canyon after the event and were returning when our car met with an accident. Col Sudhakar was airlifted to a hospital in Las Vegas. Santokh was also admitted at the same hospital while Archana, who fractured her both legs, was referred to another hospital in Las Vegas.”

The national federation has already mailed the concerned authority in the Indian Embassy in the United States to look into the matter and provide with immediate help. Both Colonel Jayant Sudhakar as well as Santokh Singh have had to undergo surgeries to get themselves out of the critical situation. Uday Shetty, who is the secretary of the Indian federation, said that they have sought immediate help from all the available quarters.
