How to take care your feet

Do you want to lower your chances of getting foot problems? Constant exposure to dirt, grime and sun can wreak your feet. Here are some tips, which will help you to make your own plan for taking care of your feet.

Check your feet every day:
You should check your feet everyday for cuts, red spots, sores, swelling, and infected toenails. Sometimes, you may have problems in your feet, but feel no pain. Check your feet each evening when you take off your footwear.

Wash your feet every day:
You should wash your feet in warm, not hot, water. Do not soak your feet because your skin will get dry. You can use talcum powder or cornstarch to keep the skin between your toes dry to prevent infection.

Keep the skin soft and smooth:
Rub your feet with a thin coat of lotion, cream, or petroleum jelly on the tops and bottoms of your feet. You should not put lotion or cream between your toes because this might cause an infection.

Wear shoes and socks at all times:
Wearing shoes and socks at all times is the best way to protect your feet from dirt, grime and sun . Do not walk barefoot, indoors or outside. Make sure you wear socks, stockings, or nylons with your shoes to keep from getting blisters and sores. You should choose clean, lightly padded socks that fit well.

Keep the blood flowing to your feet:
Put your feet up when you are sitting for a long time. You should wiggle your toes for 5 minutes, 2 or 3 times a day. Move your ankles up and down and in and out to help blood flow in your feet and legs. Do not cross your legs for long periods of time and also do not wear tight socks, elastic, or rubber bands around your legs.

Apply a layer of nourishing gel on your feet before you go off to bed:
For those who have cracked heels, it is suggested to use a nourishing gel before you go off to bed every night. You should ideally wear socks, once you apply the gel on your feet. It protect your feet from bacteria present in the air.
