For centuries women have used wine as a natural skin care treatment. Homemade wine-based masks and toners are great to exfoliate and treat skin problems. Wine facials are very popular among women all over the world. Wine has utility in topical skin care treatment, as it's composed of a wide range of substances.

There are different varieties of wine and each of them has a slightly different composition. So it's important to choose a varieties that would be useful for a particular skin types.

People with dry skin may benefit from a sweet wine, the abundant sugar is good for water-binding purposes.

Acne-prone skin can opt for red wine, as it has a high concentration of the polyphenol resveratrol, which helps to inflammation. It also prevents free radical damage of the skin. In fact, people who are acne-prone may benefit by using dry red wine as a toner straight from the bottle.

Women with extremely flaky skin may benefit from dry wine, due to its high concentration of citric, malic and tartaric acid.

Here are few other tips for skin care with wine.

Those with dry skin can make a mask using 3 tablespoons sweet red wine, one tablespoon honey and half a tablespoon of aloe vera gel. Mix well and apply this mask on your face and neck. Keep it on for 10 to 15 minutes and and wash with water.

Red wine is great for oily skin and helps to keep acne under control. Take 3 tablespoons red wine and some yogurt and blend well. Use this facial mask on your face and neck. Rinse after keeping it on for 10 minutes.

People who suffer from flaky body skin will benefit from white whine. Make a facial mask using ¼ cup of dry white wine and 1 cup white vinegar. Mix well and use half a cup in your bathwater to treat flaky skin.

Those with dry body skin can make a after bath spray as a skin treatment. For this blend 1 cup dry red wine with 1 cup of water. Heep this liquid in a spray bottle, and use it on your body after a bath or shower. Let it stay for 5 minutes, then wash off.

White wine is suitable for sensitive skin. Red wines have the natural preservative tannin that may irritate the facial skin. You can use white wine with a soothing herb like chamomile, which has been boiled together for 10 minutes.
