Indian PM, President Pays Tribute To ‘Father Of The Nation’

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi - Father of the Nation at his Rajghat memorial in New Delhi, today 2 October 2015, on his 146th birth anniversary. Also, Hamid Ansari, Vice President, paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.

LK Advani - senior BJP leader, M Venkaiah Naidu - Union urban development minister, and other ministers accompanied Modi as he reached Raj Ghat. In a tweet, PM Modi, re-emphasized Mahatma Gandhi's dream of 'Swachh Bharat'.

Modi tweeted saying that, "Cleanliness was very close to Mahatma Gandhi's heart. Let us reaffirm our commitment for Swachh Bharat and fulfill our beloved Bapu's dream. A clean India will enhance our development journey and benefit the poor.”

Though the title of ‘Father of the Nation’ is not officially declared, as the Constitution of India does not permit a father of nation, it is mostly conferred to him.
