Proposal Of Rs. 1,850cr Package For New Indian Citizens

Indian Government has proposed to allot Rs 1,850 Crore for the rehabilitation of new Indian citizens moving from the eastern border, after historic Land Border Agreement between signed between Dhaka and New Delhi.

According to sources, the ministry of home affairs (MHA) has moved the Cabinet proposal to rehabilitate the 51 enclaves. It has details of works required to be carried out for rehabilitating nearly 7,500 families with approximately 37,000 people.

Package for new Indian Citizens

The scheme of things includes provision of flats around 750 sq ft to each family and construction of a new bridge on river Teesta connecting Haldibadi and Mekhliganj

On Wednesday West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss on this. Mamata Banerjee will implement the package that Centre funds, in 3-5 years. The Government is planning to make financial allocation for both temporary and permanent rehabilitation of the new citizens, through this package for new citizens.

Upgrading the Cooch Behar-Dinhata-Gitaldah road to a National Highway, setting up facilities for medical care, building four bus terminus and police infrastructure are amongst other proposals for infrastructure development. Other requirements such as power and water supply and establishment of schools are also being considered under the package for new citizens.
