Six people died and several others were reportedly injured after stampede at Godavari Pushkaralu event in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.

Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, rushed to the incident site to take stock of the situation and instructed officials to begin relief work.

The ongoing event that began on Tuesday is called "Maha Pushkaralu", which happens once in 144-year, and is dedicated to worshipping rivers in the two states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The smaller version of it is observed once in 12 years.

The 'Pushakaram' is similar to the 'Kumbh Mela'. The main ritual of the festival is to take holy dip. Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, took a holy dip this morning, like other pilgrims.
