Passenger arrested for holding 3 KGs gold

The Chennai  police today arrested a person who allegedly arrived at the Chennai airport with three kilograms of gold coins that were worth one crore rupees. 

According to our sources, the passenger aged about 35 years has arrived from France and was caught at the customs check with such a huge amount of gold without valid documents.  This passenger was said to be working as a courier bringing such valuable items to the city.  He was reportedly an owner of a hotel in France.  He initially started as a courier and frequently flied to France.

The accused later met a woman who he married after a period of time before he had set up the  hotel.  While 350 coins were recovered from his bag, the customs officials found few more coins in his clothes after they frisked him.  It may be noted that this person even got his sister got married to someone in France and she stays there.  It was only this passenger’s father who stays in India. 

There was no information as to whether he was holding a valid passport or not.  The sources further said that the customs officials gave information to the police and the passenger was taken into the custody immediately. The case has been registered against the passenger. 

The details, pertaining to the case, are yet to be given by the police. This passenger arrived at the airport in the wee hours and perhaps thought he would bluff the customs officials.(Phani)
