India launches awareness campaign for women marrying NRIs

With an aim to prevent fraudulent marriages, India government has launched an awareness campaign for women who are about to marry overseas Indians. Pamphlets have been published, informing the would-be-brides about the safeguards available in case of desertation, said an official release on Thursday.

The pamphlet titled " Marriages to Overseas Indians" have been published in various languages - English, Hindi, Punjabi, Malayalam and Telugu.

An English booklet containing information related to safeguards available to deserted women by overseas Indian men has also been published. It has valuable information covering legal remedies, the appropriate redressal authorities they can approach, as well as information on the social organisations that could be of assistance to the bereaved women.

Even earlier the government has taken steps like extension of legal and financial assistance to women deserted by their overseas Indian spouses.
