The 24-year-old woman, Greeshma, has been sentenced to death in Kerala for killing her 23-year-old boyfriend, Sharon Raj, around two years ago. Greeshma had poisoned her boyfriend to end their romantic relationship. The local court, which convicted Greeshma and her uncle for the murder, stated that the accused's age did not outweigh the seriousness of the crime. Greeshma had requested leniency in sentencing due to her academic achievements, lack of prior criminal history, and being her parents' only daughter, but the court rejected this. The prosecution presented circumstantial, digital, and scientific evidence to prove the crime. Greeshma is the youngest woman to face capital punishment in Kerala. The victim's lawyer expressed confidence that the evidence would be accepted by the court and that this judgment sets an example.
In 2022, Greeshma killed her boyfriend by giving him an ayurvedic tonic laced with paraquat, a harmful chemical. He passed away 11 days later from multiple organ failure. She had planned the murder because Raj refused to end their relationship after her marriage was arranged with a soldier from Tamil Nadu. Officials revealed that Greeshma had previously tried to poison Raj by mixing paracetamol tablets in fruit juice, but failed as he refused to drink it due to the bitter taste. Raj was a BSc Radiology student from Parassala in the Thiruvananthapuram district. Greeshma was found guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder. Her uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, was also found guilty of destroying evidence. However, the accused's mother was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
