Ever since Rahul Gandhi started working for the Congress party followed by Sonia Gandhi, he has seen a backlash. Many even doubted his capability to lead the party. The fifth generation of Gandhi’s family was teased by many after their failure in 2014. But now in 2024, the brother-sister duo Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have rewrote the story by winning 99 seats in 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Rahul Gandhi has risen like a phoenix from ashes. Mr Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra is a huge success and played a key role in changing the fortune of the Congress party. Now Gandhis have all the reasons to rejoice after Rahul Gandhi has increased the vote bank from 17 per cent in 2019 to 27 per cent in 2024. Rahul Gandhi has brought Congress literally from ashes and finally showed his strength. Rahul Gandhi has won both in Wayanad, Kerala and Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh. The so-called ‘Pappu’ has won in Raibareli with more than 4 lakh votes majority. Now congress will play the reasonable opposition role. Priyanka Gandhi will contest from Raebareli Lok Sabha in bypolls along with assembly polls of Haryana and Maharashtra after Rahul Gandhi’s resignation. This will be the first time for the Gandhi family to have three of their family members in Lok Sabha.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have maintained their brother-sister harmony throughout. Mallikarjune Kharge, head of the INDIA bloc was an add-on benefit for the party as he has worked 18 hours a day without a break after he was announced to lead the INDIA bloc. Besides this Mallikharjuna Kharge was holding the communications and talks between the leaders and was leading them throughout the elections. Since October 2023, he has been a busy man and punishing himself with too much party work. Kharge’s work is the key for the party to be in power in the Karnataka assembly. When Rahul Gandhi was gruelling yantras from South to North and from East to West, Priyanka Gandhi was smoothly handling the political counters from BJP leaders and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After the huge embarrassment of the Congress party in 2014, Rahul and Priyanka never resembled the loss in their campaigns. Rahul Gandhi was super confident and his interactions with the public, students and leaders were remarkable. Priyanka Gandhi was a star campaigner and was a dignified attacker on opposition leaders. In crisis management both brother and sister duo have stuck together with the help of Sonia Gandhi and led it well. Rahul Gandhi while sharing the stage with INDIA bloc leaders had direct attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which turned out to be the talk of the voters.
Congress failed in the south and mainly in Karnataka. If DK Shivkumar and Siddaramaiah’s feet had not failed miserably, Congress might have had all the chances to form government in the centre in 2024 itself with the support of the INDIA bloc alliance parties. Congress has miserably failed in Karnataka and Telangana Lok Sabha elections, where they formed governments recently in assembly elections. Now the hopes are alive for Gandhi’s family after Rahul Gandhi’s success. The dynasty politics will now continue to the next term Lok Sabha elections with strong political strategies.
