Polarizing EDM (Electronic Dance Music) duo The Chainsmokers and Ariana Grande, who are one of the biggest pop icons in the music world right now, are ready to make their Singapore debut at the upcoming 2017 Formula-1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix at Marina Bay Street Circuit from September 15 to 17.
Joining them as headliners at the event are British pop veterans Duran Duran and Ryan Tedder’s OneRepublic, as well as rapper/spoken word star George the Poet and singer-songwriter Lianne La Havas.
The Chainsmokers have dominated the pop charts in the recent years. Don’t Let Me Down, which they released last year won the Grammy Award in February this year for the Best Dance Recording.
21-year-old Darren Ching, who is a fan of The Chainsmokers said that he is “definitely excited.”
“Even though the beats in their songs may sound similar, they’ll surely be able to bring the house down with the set they will be playing,” he said. “As long as Andrew Taggart doesn’t do a live rendition of ‘Closer’”.
22-year-old Ng Gin Kee is looking forward to catching Ariana Grande and OneRepublic, who he thinks is a “feel good” band.
Ariana Grande started out on Kids television channel Nickelodeon and is not one of the world’s most popular pop icons, with two of her three albums hitting the top of the Billboard charts. Grande is the second most followed person on Instagram after Selena Gomez.
The music concerts held at the annual ‘Grand prix’ are one of the biggest gigs held in the country, with a gigantic main stage at the Padang that typically draws around 50,000 music fans a night.
The tickets for the tenth edition of the night race are available at Singaporegp.sg
