It takes two to get a hug. Not any more. You can bring home the hugging chair when you feel lonely. A Japanese company has invented a chair that gives you a hug when you need one.
The comforting furniture has been named "tranquility chair". The chair comes with an upper half with arms that wrap around the sitter. Those long arms embrace humans affectionately, making them feel warm and wanted.
The cheer-inducing chair has been created by UniCare. The company has been selling the chairs at a price of around $419 in Japan.
A UniCare spokesperson says the chair makes you feel safe, according to reports. Designed specially for older people, the chair can be udes by everyone.
Japan has a rapidly aging population. Almost 25 % of its citizens are over 65 years of age. And in coming decades the figure is expected to rise to 40 %.
It means quite a few elderly people will be needing hugs, and the hugging chair will be helpful, added the UniCare spokesperson.
These chairs are specially comfortable for people who live alone. People can talk to them and also hug them. Besides the chair plays old Japanese music that is nostalgic for the older generation, said the spokesman.
