Reliance Jio emerged as the leading mobile carrier in the country and it gained millions of subscribers in no time. In a surprising shock, Reliance Jio lost over 19 million subscribers in the month of September leaving the total number in India at 424.83 million. Airteal added 0.27 million customers taking the total number to 354.46 million while Vodafone Idea lost 1.07 million subscribers and its base stands at 269.99 million. The details are released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Jio also reported 11 million drop in the customers during the period of July and September.

The average revenue per user (ARPU) in the second quarter of Jio dropped from Rs 138 to Rs 144 when compared to April and June period. Airtel and VI marginally widened the customer market shares. Jio narrowed without much loss or profit gain despite the dormant users. Jio lost 6.6 million users across the rural areas in the month of September. Airtel and VI too suffered rural user losses. Jio has been a leader in the Indian market from the past few months but the users in the rural regions prefered other networks other than Jio.
