A wad of recent Bollywood hits have proved that a successful movie doesn't always need star power, a good story or big publicity to get the cash registers ringing at the ticket counters. And movies like 'Grand Masti' and 'Aashiqui 2' are a testimony to that

While 'Grand Masti' (2013), which was a sequel to the average-grossing 2004 comedy 'Masti', was a blockbuster hit. Likewise, the musical drama 'Aashiqui 2', featuring debutants Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor not only made big moolah at the box-office, but also grabbed many awards this year. But these two movies aren't the only exceptions. We bring to you a list of latest surprise hits that we bet even the trade analysts didn't believe would shake up the box-office. Here take a look.

Although the prequel was inspired from the real-life story of Deepika, the horrex sequel had no real-story to its advantage. But that didn't deter it from becoming a box-office hit. Thanks to the adult film star Sunny Leone who got crowds to throng at the theaters.

Shootout At Wadala

 

The 2007 crime thriller Shootout at Lokhandwala was a success. Interestingly, even the sequel which starred John Abraham did well at the BO.

Starring Sonakshi Sinha and Shahid Kapoor, this movie was an unexpected hit too.

ABCD

 

Think dancing movies are not meant for Bollywood? Prabhu Deva's and Remo's movie broke the prejudice. A sequel starring Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor is already in making.

A simple movie with a strong message and Arshad Warsi in the lead, this film went on to bag the National Film Award for the best movie.
