A prohibitory order has been issued by Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, under CRPC Section 144, specifically targeting transgender individuals. This order prohibits them from freely moving about the city and attending ceremonies or rituals without invitation. Additionally, they are prohibited from gathering at traffic junctions and asking for money from passersby. Last year, when he was the Commissioner of Police in Nagpur City, Kumar had issued similar orders. Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure grants district magistrates and magisterial officials the authority to issue prohibitory orders in cases where there is potential for disturbance or threat to law and order. This order will remain in effect for one month, beginning on Friday, and any objections to it will be duly considered. The order was prompted by complaints of alleged harassment and extortion by transgender individuals in public spaces and residences.

The authorities have become aware of a concerning situation involving certain individuals who are visiting people's homes without invitation or request. These individuals are entering the residences and demanding money in an aggressive and vulgar manner. This behavior is causing distress to those who are celebrating special occasions or dealing with important family matters, as they are being coerced into giving more money than they wish to contribute.
