Hemant Soren, the leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, has filed a petition with the Supreme Court challenging his arrest in a money laundering case. The Enforcement Directorate detained the former Chief Minister on Wednesday night after questioning him for six hours. The highest court has agreed to review the case on Friday. "They haven't found any evidence yet. They even attempted to tarnish my reputation by conducting raids at my residence in Delhi. We must now embark on a new battle against those who oppress the poor, Adivasis, Dalits, and the innocent," Soren stated in a video message recorded shortly before his arrest.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has decided to postpone the hearing until tomorrow. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal informed the Supreme Court that Soren would retract his plea against the arrest made in the Jharkhand High Court. The experienced politician resigned from his position as Jharkhand Chief Minister on Wednesday evening after a lengthy interrogation by the ED. The case revolves around substantial proceeds of illegal activities that were generated through the falsification of official records, involving the use of counterfeit documents to acquire valuable parcels of land worth millions.

Champai Soren took over the leadership position after the arrest and was appointed as the JMM legislative party leader on Wednesday evening. He asserted that they would persist in protecting the honor of Jharkhand and had asserted their right to govern the state. Soren emphasized that they had the backing of 47 MLAs and highlighted the long-standing suppression of the Adivasi community's voice in the region.
