Praveen Sood, Karnataka Director General of Police of batch 1986 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer was appointed as the Central Bureau of Investigation next director by a committee headed by Narendra Modi. On the 25th of May, Subodh Kumar Jaiswal completed his tenure and Praveen will take the lead as the CBI director for the next two years.

Praveen Sood was born in Himachal Pradesh and got his degree from IIT Delhi. In 1986 he joined IPS and got in first posting in 1989 at Mysuru. He took a break from his work and has completed his post-graduation from IIM, Bangalore and Maxwell School of Governance, New York in Public Policy and Management. He has been decorated with many prestigious medals like the Chief Ministers Gold Medal of Excellence in 1996, Meritorious Service in 2002 and the Presidents Police Medal in 2011(for his use of technology in traffic management). Mr Praveen Sood also worked as Principal Secretary and as Additional director general of police.
