Chennai Rains: NDRF Teams Deployed and Schools Shut

Chennai is shattered with the untimely rains and is currently in recovery mode. The city is shattered with the heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday. Most of the low-lying regions are flooded and the rainwater reached many homes in the city. The sluice gates of the reservoirs in the city are lifted Chennai received the heaviest rainfall since 2015 which is caused due to the northeast monsoon. Tamil Nadu's Revenue and Disaster Management minister KKSSR Ramachandran is monitoring the rescue works. He said that four people died due to rain-related incidents in the city and one person got injured. The rainfall stopped on late Sunday night and rain continued in Erode and Tiruvarur.

Several regions in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry received 43 percent excess rainfall this year. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDRF) deployed four teams on the request of the government of Tamil Nadu. Narendra Modi spoke to the Chief Minister MK Stalin and assured support from the Centre. "Spoke to Tamil Nadu CM, Thiru @mkstalin and discussed the situation in the wake of heavy rainfall in parts of the state. Assured all possible support from the Centre in rescue and relief work. I pray for everyone's well-being and safety." told Narendra Modi. Chennai received 210mm rainfall as per the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) between Saturday and Sunday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy rain till Tuesday.
