Pop icon and superstar Rihanna drew some global attention for the Farmers’ protest in India after she posted a tweet on Twitter and shared a story on her Instagram. She received unprecedented backlash from Indian citizens.

The ministry of external affairs in India released a statement which criticized celebrities and other citizens for making statements that were neither accurate nor responsible.They have also state that these celebrities and citizens with a voice are dragging down the unity of the country.

Indians have been taking Rihanna’s statement seriously. One Bollywood actress who is known for her pro-government opinions called Rihanna porn star and even threw misogynistic trolls at her for the incident that took place with her ex boyfriend Chris Brown when he physically assaulted her in 2009.

Thousands of farmers or even more, all over India have been protesting on the borders of the Delhi capital for more then two months now, fighting to demolish the new agriculture laws which loosen the rules around sales, pricing and the storage of agricultural produce in the country.

The singer’s tweet regarding the protest has gained more than 7,00,000 likes. Rihanna has around 100 million followers on Twitter.

Government officials have started the new tweet, led by Home Minister Amit Shah which is a hashtag that says #IndiaAgainstPropoganda and #IndiaTogether.

After this tweet, ministers, Bollywood stars and even cricket players began using the hashtags used by Mr Shah.

Climate campaigner Greta Thunberg also shared a link to register for objections against the new laws. Police in India have been investigation against an alleged international campaign to damage India’s reputation.

The more these protests and online tweets have been taking place against the farmer’s laws in support of the protest, the more it has become a challenge for the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi’s government.

After due consideration, the government has offered to suspend the laws for 18 months. However, farmers are not happy and want the laws to be repealed.

However, people are surprised at Indians’ over the top response to Rihanna supporting a noble cause. Bollywood Actress Kangana Ranaut who is a staunch and vocal support of BJP had critisized Rihanna in a series of tweets, dissing her music, appearance, business and even the color of her skin.

Even Canada;s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has shown his concern for the protest happening at Delhi and has voiced his concern on social media as well.

India’s government on the other hand is defending its actions and is against all celebrities or citizens backlashing their actions. They have curbed a few places on the internet to prevent further violence online and offline.
