The Dharmaj town of the Anand district, Gujarat will be painted pink as they celebrate women power by hosting 14th Dharmaj Day celebrations.

“We call it DD for DD,” said Rajesh Patel who is a part of the Dharmaj team. The Dharmaj day celebrations are being organized in order to make an attempt for connecting generations next of NRI with their roots since 2007.

Patel said, “ we will also be unveiling the ‘vanshavali’ or the family tree which for the first time will include names of the daughters and daughter-in-laws of the community. Usually, the community tree just bear names of sons or grandsons. Daughters are not given their due in family or community trees as such a space is left blank. But we are revamping this. We had started efforts for this last year itself.”

The inclusion of the names of female members of each family has been decided and was launched last year during the international women’s day celebrations wherein women of team Dharmaj were dressed up in pink with forms that were filled in pink letters.

The felicitation of Trupti Patel, who is the first female civil engineer from Asian community in UK and is currently president of the Hindu Forum, will also be done . She will be felicitated with Dharmaj Gaurav award.

Dr Rupande Patel and Dr Gorande Kanabar, who are female doctors and are siblings currently being settled in the US and London will be felicitated with Dharmaj Jyothi Award.
