Congress President Raul Gandhi in a press conference after Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting announced Minimum basic Income guarantee Scheme, says 20% of India’s poorest families will get Rs 72,000 yearly, if party comes to power.

The announcement came after CWC held a meeting to finalise the party’s election manifesto for 2019 Lok Sabha Polls.

Congress President said, “We will do justice by the poor people of the country through the Minimum Income Guarantee scheme. There has been no such scheme in the whole world. Congress party guarantees that 20% of the families below poverty line will get Rs 72,000 annually."

“5 crore families and 25 crore people will directly benefit from this scheme. The minimum income line will be Rs 12,000 per month, All calculations have been done. There is no such scheme anywhere else in the world,” he added.

"It is an extremely powerful, extremely dynamic, extremely well-thought idea. We have done all the calculations. We have spoken to economists. This is a ground-breaking idea. This will be a fiscally prudent scheme. We will eliminate poverty from the country," he said.
