The nominations for the 2019 General Elections began on Monday as after the election body issued a notification inviting nominations for the first phase of the polls.
A total of 91 constituencies will in 20 states across the country will go on vote on April 11, according to an earlier announcement by the election commission.
The EC said nominations for the first phase could be done till March 25, and it would be scrutinised by March 26. Thereafter, candidates whose names are cleared would get two more days to withdraw their nominations.
AIMIM leader Asadudddin Owaisi was one of the first leaders to file his nominations when he submitted his papers to the returning officer for Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency.
And according to Election Commission of India’s data the country now has a total of 2,293 registered political parties till March 9, a day before the dates of 2019 General election were announced.
The data says 149 political parties were registered with the election panel only between February and March on the eve of the announcement of the election schedule.
The 2019 General Elections to be held in seven phases, will begin from April 11 and go on till May 19 which is the final phase, results will be declared on May 23.
