The Grand Diwali Celebration was held at the BAPS (Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha) Mandir in Irving on Saturday, which is one of the major revelries in the year for the Indian-American community.

Diwali, a Hindu Festival of Lights takes place across the world through beautifying houses, shops and other public places with trivial clay oil lamps called diyas to signify the mystical "victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance," according to the Hindu American Foundation.

Tushar Solanki, a volunteer, said the festivity is about "starting the new year off right and then really spreading that out to the rest of the community." He also said it is an inordinate commemoration of what it means to be Hindu in day-to-day life, which can then be imparted in future generations.
