Miami:
An Indian American cyclist training for Dolphins Cancer Challenge was killed when a tow vehicle carrying a boat collided, on Jan 13. Bharat Reddy Narahari, a 37 year old native of Karimnagar in Andhra Pradesh, died in the unfortunate road accident in Miami, FL. Reddy was in US from past 10 years and he was training for the upcoming Dolphin’s Cancer Challenge when he was hit.

The accident happened around 8:00 am on Saturday near Black point Marina and left another cyclist injured. Reddy was an active member of Team Hammerheads which is a USA Triathlon Club and also trained with Miami’s Go Run Running Club.

“He was a beloved member of our group,” quoted by Amy Stone, incharge of Team Hammerheads.

“He was more than just a team member; he was part of their running family”, quoted by Doug Nicaragua, his coach at Running Club. “He was the type of person who would encourage everybody,” he said.

The Police stated that two bicyclists were heading south and somehow they fell when suddenly the boat towed by a truck hit Reddy and the other cyclist. The crash is still under investigation. Earlier the reports stated that Reddy was critical but later on Thursday it was established that he died on the spot in the accident.

His brother, who was in Australia, is on his way to Florida and his parents, who live in Karimnagar town, have been informed about the incident. His father Laxma Reddy is a retired teacher. He was the former president of the Karimnagar unit of the Panchayat Raj Teachers Union.

Reddy got a master’s degree in computer science in 2006-2007 from the University of Bridgeport. He was currently working on the SAP Business Intelligence System of Baptist Health, a firm in South Florida.

Dolphins Cancer Challenge said, “We are deeply saddened by the accident that caused the sudden and tragic loss of a participant in our training ride Saturday morning. On behalf of the Dolphins Cancer Challenge, we would like to express our deepest condolences to the family and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.”

More reports to come in as investigation progresses.
