Government appoints Anupam Kher as new FTII Chairman

On Wednesday government has appointed Anupam Kher as the new chairman of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune. Anupam Kher has replaced Gajendra Chauhan. Gajendra Chauhan’s tenure was ended in March of this year.

In 2015 Gajendra Chauhan’s appointment led to many protests by students. These protests delayed Gajendra Chauhan in taking his position as chairman.

Anupam Kher has displayed exceptional acting skills throughout the years. The 62-year-old actor has acted in more than 500 films, including some of his international projects. This two-time national award winner has previously headed the censor board and the National School of Drama. He also received Padma Bhushan award in 2016.

His wife Kirron Kher, an actor and BJP MP thanked Prime Minister Modi and Smriti Irani for their support. She also said that he has credentials to become a very good chairman.

Many people from the film fraternity congratulated him on various social media platforms.

Kher was also among those who backed the protests against appointment of Gajendra Chauhan. Regardless of all these protests, Gajendra Chauhan refused to resign from his position.
