Hurricane Irma Moves Towards Florida

Hurricane Irma, one of the most powerful Atlantic storm in the century has caused huge destruction across Caribbean and is now moving towards Florida. This storm has reduced buildings into rubble, leaving at least nine people dead.

Irma, a category five hurricane has made small island of Barbuda “barely habitable”. Officials inform that St. Martin is almost destroyed and the death toll is likely to rise. Now, this storm is passing north of Puerto Rico.

More than half of Puerto Rico residents are without power due to heavy downpours and Strong winds. Officials say that power could be cut off for many days.

The prime minister of Barbuda Island told that more than 50% of people on island lost their homes. It would cost $100m to rebuilt the island. However, Antigua with a population of 80,000 escaped major damages, with no loss of life.

Two other storms also formed hurricane on Wednesday. This storm is moving towards Florida from Puerto Rico.

Florida Emergency Officials, Chastened by Harvey’s devastation, begin evacuations days in advance of Irma’s Arrival, ordering all the tourists to leave the Florida keys, a resort archipelago off the state’s southern tip, starting Monday morning.

Evacuation of residents from Keys to begin Wednesday evening. Florida’s normally storm-jaded residents are also taking warnings seriously. After the aftermath of Harvey, Florida is bracing itself by taking precautions against Irma.
