Nokia’s iconic 3310 may not be available in Singapore

Nostalgia ruled the roost for Finnish company Nokia at the Mobile World Congress on Sunday (27th Feb) as the re-launch of its humble 3310 mobile phones from 2000 stood out in a sea of new smart phones armed with the latest technology.

But unfortunately Singapore consumers, who wish to relive the nostalgia ear of reliable, power-efficient "dumb phone”, may not be so lucky. As it will be unlikely to be sold in the country.

The 2G services in Singapore will end by April this year, making the re-boot Nokia 3310 incompatible with the mobile networks.

Still, interested people can get their hands on the classic phone, by purchasing the phone from overseas.

The Nokia 3310 was launched back in 2000 and the company sold nearly 120 million handsets worldwide before the model was discontinued in 2005, making 3310 one of the world’s best selling mobile phones.

The reboot version of 3310 will have the popular “Snake” game and the brand's distinctive ringtone,

Mr. Arto Nummela, head of Finnish start-up HMD Global said that the updated 3310 will sport classic Nokia features such as the popular "Snake" game and the brand's distinctive ringtone.

The new version of 3310 will cost up to 49 Euros and comes with 2.4 inch color screen, and a battery that will last for a month on standby mode, the company claims. The phone comes with 2.5G connectivity, which makes it’s incompatible with faster mobile networks.

The new 3310 will also support web-browsing and will come with a 2 MP camera.

It is not sure that the Nokia 3310 will be sold in Singapore as all the 2G networks will be closed from April.

Fans of the classic who are thinking of using the 3310 to use the Internet over Wi-Fi connection in the absence of 2G will be out of luck too- the handset does not support Wi-Fi.
