Two Trains Derail In MP, Killed 24 PassengersTop Stories

Two trains, Kamayani Express and Janata Express derailed within minutes of each other Tuesday night while crossing a bridge on the Machak river near Harda in Madhya Pradesh, India. The twin train accident has killed 24 passengers, while more than 30 were reportedly injured. Over 200 people have been rescued till now. Passengers feared of being trapped in the water logged carriages.

Seven coaches of Kamayani Express en route to Varanasi from Mumbai were reportedly derailed around 11.45 pm near Harda, at around 160 km from Bhopal. Even Janata Express' three coaches and the engine derailed around the same time. Railways said that the derailment occurred, as the track caved in because of heavy rains.

Anil Saxena, ministry spokesman said, “We are trying to rescue passengers. Relief work is going on on a war footing. We are checking all carriages to look for trapped passengers.”

Suresh Prabhu railway minister of India said that although emergency medical personnel and other rescuers were rushed to the place of incident, difficulties were created by water and darkness.

Twin train accident punches Rail traffic

After the twin train mishap in Madhya Pradesh, rail traffic emerged with at least 25 trains being diverted from Mumbai. Besides a temporary stop to trains from Punjab, MP and Uttar Pradesh.
