Fugitive Underworld don and prime accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts, Dawood Ibrahim, reportedly wanted to surrender after a gap of 15 months of blasts. Regarding this he had talks with then DIG Neeraj Kumar and also with renowned lawyer Ram Jethmalani, according to media reports.

He was reportedly spoke to Neeraj Kumar thrice, but CBI and government allegedly not accepted his demands or conditions.

Quoting Neeraj Kumar, the HT report said, Dawood wanted to surrender, but he was worried that the rival gang could finish him off if he comes back in India, however, he was assured of safety.

According to the reports, Neeraj Kumar who lead the CBI probe into the March 12, 1993 was asked to put an end to the phone calls by the senior officials. The police officer retired as the Delhi Police commissioner in July 2013.

Some reports and audio tapes suggested that Dawood was in Pakistan, (eg, audio tape with Iqbal) some right wing organizations in India asked the government to take up a similar operation carried out by US to end Osama bin Laden.
