Around 3,300 Indians have been evacuated from strife-torn Yemen so far with the largest number of a little over 1000 rescued by ship and air from the country last evening.

India expects to wrap up its operation Rahat in the next 24 hours now as the small number of its nationals still left in Yemen are being brought back home.

INS Turkash will be docking at Al Hudaydah port today to bring the remaining Indians to Djibouti from where they will be flown back to India.

New Delhi has sent its three warships besides passenger liners and pressed IAF and Air India into service to evacuate its nationals in one of the largest evacuation operations it has undertaken so far.

As many as 26 countries have requested India for help in the evacuation of their nationals from Yemen. These countries include France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Cuba, Czech Republic, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq Indonesia, Malaysia , Bangladesh and Lebanon.

The INS Mumbai has been evacuating Indians from Aden port in the face of heavy shelling. The Air India brought the largest batch of 574 from Yemenese capital Sanaa last evening, while 479 were brought out by Indian naval ships.UNI NAZ SW RSA.
