Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has adopted a village in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. Tendulkar, who is a Rajya Sabha member, will use Rs. 4 crore available from his MPLADS (Member of Parliament Local Area Development) funds to turn the village into a smart village.

Tendulkar adopted Puttamraju Kandrika village in Gudur mandal to make it a smart village by using the MPLADS funds available to him.

Nellore District Collector N. Srikanth and Joint Collector G. Rekharani had sent proposals to Tendulkar for developing the social infrastructure and several amenities in the village.

The cricketer has approved the proposals and even gave his consent, according to reports.

Now the district officials are making arrangements for Tendulkar's visit to the village. On November 16, the legendary cricketer is likely to interact with residents of Puttamraju Kandrika village. Incidentally it happens to be the day he took retirement from cricket.

The project is expecter to bring improved facilities to the village. Puttamraju Kandrika villagers will get improved roads, lanes, electricity and better drinking water supply. Amenities will also include facilities like community hall and school. Besides there is a proposal to provide Wi-Fi connectivity to residents of the village.

Under the MPLADS scheme, each MP has the choice to suggest to the District Collector for, works to the tune of Rs.5 Crores per annum to be taken up in his/her constituency. Nominated Members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha may select any districts from any State in the country for implementation of their choice of work under the scheme.
