Media reports suggest that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is adopting the teenaged son of his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. According to reports, Rahul is adopting the 13-year old son of Priyanka to facilitate his smooth entry into politics.

Priyanka, who is daughter of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, has served legal notice to media organisations following the publication of these reports.

In her notice Priyanka said the allegation that a parent would willingly allow her child to be adopted  by someone else as if he was an object is in itself a morbid idea. And to add an intension like perpetuation of dynastic political aspiration to the idea is all the more sickening.

The damaging allegation is aimed at causing deep offence to my family, said Priyanka while adding that the pernicious falsehood is an unacceptable aspersion on her motherhood and on her character.

Priyanka, 42, is married to businessman Robert Vadra and they have a son named Raihan and daughter Miraya.

Recently a newspaper reportedly suggested that speculations are rife within the Congress that Rahul Gandhi may adopt Raihan. That way he can use the Gandhi name. The newspaper also said that Rahul Gandhi is Raihan's guardian in school forms.

The report was quashed by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and called it a "malicious work of fiction."
