If you are a frequent flier on SpiceJet then you may have noticed the difference in their attire during weekends. You will realise that the cabin crew are not wearing their usual uniforms.

The cabin crew of SpiceJet have a weekend uniform. They are the only Indian carrier to have a differnt dress code for weekends. The air hostesses wear colourful kurtis and jeans, while the male cabin staff have polo t-shirts with denims. The more colourful attire is for the weekends, starting Friday to Sunday.

Sanjiv Kapoor, chief operating oficer of SpiceJet, says that the airlines envisages to adopt a much warmer, friendlier and natural ambience for its patrons on board. The weekend attire is an extension of this philosophy.

Kapoor feels that the weekend uniform would be appealing to corporates who are into casual dressing on Fridays. The vibrant uniform will be mood uplifting and make the customers more cheerful on Fridays and during the weekend when they fly.

An IndiGo airhostess, who did not give her name said it will be fun if other airlines also followed a weekend uniform. She termed the change as a nice initiative by SpiceJet.

But an IndiGo airlines pilot feels that a consistent uniform throughout the week is better. He opined that the uniform is for display and the passengers, as the flying staff do not have weekends.

Moreover, in case of an emergency or distress, the passengers know whom to contact or who is in authority.

Even the passengers are divided about the new initiative on SpiceJet. A Delhi-based passenger lauds the effort and says the weekend attire is a nice change from the same old boring uniform. He even suggested that other airlines should follow SpiceJet.

But another Delhi-based traveller said the new weekend dress code is not good. And that he would prefer cabin crew in corporate attire. He found the new attire unimpressive as the casual uniform reduces the gravity and authority of the cabin crew.

However, SpiceJet says that the overall response from both the passengers and the cabin crew has been positive. Kapoor said a few customers liked it so much that they asked for the new attire to be made permanent uniform. Of course the airlint won't do that as it will lose its 'specialness', added Kapoor.
