Indian minister Nirmala Sitharaman lost her baggage on her way to Cairns. The Union Minister of State for Finance was travelling on an Air India flight to Australia when her luggage was lost.

Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted about her lost baggage in the early hours of Friday.

Ms Sitharaman's Twitter post read: "Landed in Sydney to take a connecting flight to Cairns. My checked in luggage not traceable."

After about an hour the Union minister was on her connecting flight to Cairn. And again she mentioned the lost suitcase which had all her formal wear.

Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted: "On board my connecting flight to Cairns. All my formal wear in the lost suitcase! Not sure I can buy Saris in Cairns! Situation precarious!"

The Union Minister of State for Finance was on her way to Australia for a G-20 meeting scheduled for September 20-21. Ms Sitharaman even missed the evening reception organised in honour of the G-20 ministers because of her lost baggage.

"Sorry to miss the evening reception at the Palm Cove, Cairns. Staying put in the room. No word yet on my lost luggage," Sitharaman tweeted.

Her last Twitter post praised Air India for its collection of music played onboard and urged them to locate her luggage in time for the meetings.

Ms Sitharaman tweeted: "Air India - had a word of praise for the music collection on board. But now my luggage missing. Hopefully, you'll get it in time for me."

Luckily Air India was able to locate her lost baggage and sent it to Cairns before the meetings. Ms Nirmala Sitharaman must have heaved a sigh of relief on seeing her luggage – after all it saved her the hassle of going out for an emergency sari shopping trip.
