Delhi may soon get a chief minister and his council of ministers if things work out. Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung has reportedly written to the President Pranab Mukherjee asking permission to invite the BJP in Delhi to form the government.

Jung, in his report to the President, stated that BJP being the single largest party in Delhi should be invited to form government in the city state.

Ever since February when Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal resigned as Delhi chief minister, the state has been under President's Rule.

BJP, which has 29 MLAs, is the single largest party in the Delhi Assembly. The party had captured 32 seats in the assembly elections held in December, which threw up a fractured verdict. Now the party has 29 legislators as 3 MLAs contested the recent Lok Sabha elections held in May and won.

Kejriwal's AAP has second largest number of legislators, while the Congress is at a distant third with only four MLAs.

President Mukherjee has reportedly forwarded Najeeb Jung's recommendation on government formation to the Union Home Ministry. The matter will be taken up for discussion by the Union Cabinet.

According to report, the Delhi LG's argued that BJP should be invited to form government and prove its majority on the floor of the House.

Earlier, AAP had accused BJP of attempting to poach its MLAs with money and plum posts. Kejriwal's party also alleged that Jung was working at the behest of the BJP, which is in power at the Centre.
