The increasing rate of sexual crime against women in India has forced cops to think of new ways to deal with the menace. Bhopal Police, in the state of Madhya Pradesh, have launched ‘Operation Majnu’ to deal with sexual offenders in the city.

The cops hope to curb molestation cases in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, with the new initiative, according to reports.

On Saturday, ‘Operation Majnu’ was launched in the city. And the same Bhopal police arrested almost a dozen men in cases related to molestation.

The city police has stated that its drive against sexual assaulters will continue. Besides they will also give surprise visits to certain areas where cases of molestation is frequently registered.

On Sunday, cops arrested two youths from the city's Shahpura area and were later handed over to Habibganj police. Another half a dozen youths were taken into custody from Boat Club in Upper Lake on Saturday, according to officials.

The move by Bhopal police comes after cases of rape have been increasingly reported from all over the country, in cities as well as rural areas, of minor girls as well as adults.

Recently, the National Human Rights Commission took suo motu cognizance of reports in media on two rape incidents - in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The Superintendents of Police, Sagar and Hathras (of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh respectively) were issued notices and asked to report on the incident within two weeks.
