Tennis player Sania Mirza has been named Telangana's brand ambassador. But not everyone in the newly created state of India is happy with the Telangana CM K Chandrasekhara Rao's decision.

BJP leader K Laxman has strongly objected to Sania Mirza being named Telangana's brand ambassador. But wait, his reason for objection is not entirely due to her Pakistan connection.

On Wednesday, Laxman had called Sania the "daughter-in-law" of Pakistan. He had questioned the KCR government's decision to appoint the tennis player as the state's brand ambassador.

The real reason is that a section in the newly-carved state is opposed to appointing a person who is not even remotely connected with the Telangana movement.

Laxman says his opposition to Sania lies in the fact that she had never participated in any of the agitations for separate statehood.

Behind the disapproval of Sania Mirza lies another decision of the the Telangana CM. According to reports, K Chandrasekhara Rao had denied scholarships to poor children who had been born and brought up in Hyderabad, but were natives of Seemandhra.

Laxman's question is that if poor students with Seemandhra background are being branded as outsiders and scholarship is denied to them. Then why should a 27-year-old tennis player, who was born in Mumbai and has connection with Pakistan be chosen tas brand ambassador of Telangana.

The BJP legislator questioned Sania's "non-local" status and also her marriage to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. Sania Mirza was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra and later her parents settled in Hyderabad.
