Another Smartphone Manufacturing Unit In India - Lenovo GroupSci-Tech

Lenovo Group responds to PM Modi’s campaign ‘Make In India’ as it announced the establishment of a smartphone assembly unit in India. This is the biggest Chinese company to set up India manufacturing unit in partnership with Flex, earlier known as Flextronics.

New assembly line is being planned in South Indian city of Chennai. The Lenovo facility is expected to employ around 1,500 people and have an annual production capacity of 6 million smartphones. It will use imported body pats. The company said in a statement that smartphones of MotoE range have already begun production.

The 'factory of the world' - India

The country is turning as a manufacturing power house. An article in Chinese Official Media stated that it is now India’s turn to become the 'factory of the world'.

Strong movement of Chinese companies to cash the growing Indian market was marked by announcements of invest plans by China's phone maker Xiaomi and Taiwan's Foxconn in India. Lenovo is now added to the list.

"Recent years have seen an increasing number of discussions about the relationship between China and India, raising questions about whether it is a complementary or a competitive one,” it said

“Xiaomi's recent moves would suggest that bilateral economic relations are moving toward complementary.”
