Indian government had constituted an advisory body, All India Council of Sports, with an intention to concentrate on matters relating to the development and promotion of sports in the country. The members of the council will include sports personalities and coaches.
The sports ministry said that the government will duly consider the advice rendered by the council. With an intention to promote sports in India, the council may organize seminars, national, international conferences and symposia.
Members in All India Council of Sports
A person in ‘Minister of State’ rank will be the President of All India Council of Sports, which will include four members of Parliament, coaches, sports personalities, Director General Sports Authority of India, experts, DG National Anti-Doping Agency, administrators, Vice Chancellor of LNIPE, officials from Sports Ministry, representatives from National Sports Federations, Indian Olympic Association corporate bodies and NGOs.
To deliberate on matters concerning the development and sports in India, the council will meet at least one time in a quarter.
Aims of All India Council of Sports
The aims of the All India Council of Sports include
• Popularization of sports amongst the youth
• To enhance outreach of sports to rural and tribal areas, particularly areas affected by Left Wing Extremism, North East and Jammu & Kashmir
• Discuss on matters concerning promotion of inclusiveness in sports with special focus on women, differently-abled, tribals
• Prevention of drug abuse in sports, fraud of age and sexual harassment of women in sports
• To Bring professionalism, transparency and good governance in functioning of NSFs
• Promote of sports sciences and sports medicine
• Augment sports infrastructure and make sure that it is being utilized properly
• Tackle issues relating to match fixing and other malpractices in competitive sports
• Identify talent in an early stage and nurture the identified talent.
