It's a rare one! Vikas Gowda bought much pride for his country by winning the first gold in the men's discuss throw event in the ongoing 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Despite incessant showers at the Hampden Park, the 31-year-old sport star bagged a gold by flinging his discuss at 63.64m. Apostolos Parellis of Cyprus bagged the silver by clocking 63.32m while Jason Morgan of Jamaica won the bronze for his 62.34m effort.

Gowda had bagged a silver in the 2010 Delhi Games.

Gowda’s gold was the third for India on Day 8 of the Glasgow Games. Babaita Kumari and London Olympics bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt had clinched gold each in wrestling earlier in the day.
