Snooping through anyone elses things is a bad habit. And doing it with your partner's phone is worse as it indicates a deeper problem in your relationship. Try and think, why do you need to check your partner's phone at all? It indicates a lack of trust in your relationship.

If your relationship lacks trust then it's advisable to discuss the underlying issue and sort it out. However, if there is no reason to doubt your partner then avoid checking your partners phone.

In case you have doubts it's better to discuss the matter with your partner openly than to snoop through his phone. Going through his things and phone is akin to a breach of trust.

Get the whole truth

What you see in texts and emoticons may mean something different to you than what it actually means. In your haste you may make a wrong interpretation, and a harmless message may destroy your relationship.

Creates suspicion

When you snoop and don't clarify a doubt it could lead to a suspicion. The doubt will keep you worried and if it continues for long it may harm your relationship.

However, if you don't trust him then there is no reason for you to continue the relationship. Trust is the basis of any relationship and if that is lacking it's better to rethink about your relationship.
