Do you prefer to go for a skim latte - no foam, no whip - every time you order your java at a coffee store. If so, think again. Consuming a foam drink - one's that are frothy and whipped on top - leaves you feeling fuller for a longer time.
That's right! A new study from the International Journal of Obesity have found that people who ate foam had smaller appetites than those who didn't. That is because foam, which is basically nothing but whipped air, fills up your stomach. So you're more likely to feel fuller after drinking foamy drink.
The second reason has more to do with your mind. Having foam tricks your brain to believe you ate more than you did, even though it's mostly just air.
Just try having a little bit of foam after a meal or a snack, and/or in between a snack and a meal. You can go for latte with foam, or alternatively, buy a milk frother and make your own frothy drink at home. Just ensure to skip the sugar-loaded syrups—those won't curb your appetite, but only cause weight gain. Think smart, drink smart!
