27 students, 2 teachers from HCU booked citing vandalism

Police have booked two faculty members and 27 students of the University of Hyderabad for allegedly involving in vandalism on Tuesday at the residence and office of Vice-Chancellor P Appa Rao.

Few of the students who were booked are Mudavath Venkatesh Chauhan of the Joint Action Committee for Social Justice and a close friend of dalit student Rohith Vemula named Dontha Prashant. Prashant was one of the four students who were expelled from the hostel, along with vemula, for allegedly assaulting Susheel Kumar, ABVP leader. Two teachers booked in the case are Konda Yesu Ratnam (53) Associate Professor of Political Science and Dr Tathagata Sengupta (31) Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics.

All these 29 people were arrested late in the night on Tuesday. They were produced in court on Wednesday and were later released on bail.
