President of India, Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday appointed new governors for Bihar and Himachal Pradesh. Acharya Dev Vrat was named as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, while a BJP politician from UP, Ram Nath Kovind was named as the Governor of Bihar.
The appointments will come into effect from when the incumbents assume charge of their respective offices.
Ram Nath Kovind
The 69-year-old Ram Nath Kovind was Rajya Sabha member twice between 1994 and 2006. Kovind hails from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Kovind who is a lawyer by profession had been BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha chief.
A press release issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan said, “The President has been pleased to appoint Ram Nath Kovind as the Governor of Bihar and Acharya Dev Vrat as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.”
The additional charge of Himachal Pradesh was being hold by Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh.
