Prime Minister Narendra Modi and government’s missions of turning major cities into Smart Cities to accommodate the over crowded population and to meet the world class standards, has received a boost from technology major IBM. It has chosen Vizag, Surat, Allahabad among 16 global locations for its smart cities programme, where it will assist in waste management, citizen participation, technology usage, etc.
The Union Cabinet recently cleared the Smart Cities Mission for building 100 smart initially and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) for 500 cities with outlays of 48,000 crore and 50,000 crore, respectively.
Most of the companies and advanced countries have been approaching the state and central governments to take part in the Smart Cities programme.
