Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, reiterating that the Narendra Modi-led Central government is working for affluent businessmen said that the extra money accumulated from the fuel hike is being used to give bail-out packages to them.

"During the Manmohan Singh government, crude oil prices had touched $140 per barrel, which resulted in an overall rise in fuel prices the world over. Today, however, the fuel prices are $70 per barrel. The extra money is being used to bail out select businessmen," said Gandhi at a press conference held at MCA in Bandra-Kurla complex.

Withal, he abruptly concluded the interaction in less than three minutes entertaining only one question.

Gandhi did not answer in clear terms, earlier when replying to a question about a grand alliance against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the prime-ministerial face of the opposition.

"The grand alliance is to oppose BJP, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Modi who are encroaching upon the constitution and various institutions. Congress is looking to connect to all parties who are standing against this," he said.
