Padma Awards are one of the prestigious awards in India announces on the eve of Republic day. The awards included are Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhusan, Padma Shri.

These awards are recognition for works of distinction and exceptional achievements in different fields and disciplines such as art, literature and education,sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil services, trade and industry.

Ram Rahim who was convicted and sentenced 20 years of jail for raping two of his female followers this week, has recommended himself five times for this award. His address was given as Sirsa three times and Hissar Haryana and Ganganagar in Rajasthan one each time.

All the recommendations were marked in the name of “Saint Dr Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan”, also known as ‘rock star baba’, ‘guru of bling’ and all the recommendations were mostly sent from Sirsa in Haryana, Head Quarters of Dera Sacha Sauda. Approximately 4208 people nominated Ram Rahim for Padma Awards.

Amit From Sirsa has recommended Ram Rahim for 31 times and Sunil recommended him for 27 times. A few recommendations also came from his birth place Ganganagar.

Political stalwarts like Murali Manohar Joshi, Virat Kohli, Sharad Pawar, Former Lok Sabha Late speaker PA Sangma and Carnatic Musician KJ Yesudas were among the 89 people who were selected for padma awards in 2017.

Following his conviction on Aug 25, large scale violence erupted in the areas of Panchkula, Chandigarh, Sirsa and other parts of Punjab and Haryana claiming deaths of 38 people. He was penalized for 15 lakhs along with 20 years of jail.

Now, his adopted daughter Honey preet Insan is being Hunted by Police, They issued alerts at airports and all other exit points for her. She has been charged with sedition for allegedly plotting the self appointed Guru’s escape from a court in panchkula.

Reports suggested that she even argued with jail authorities, to let her stay in jail with him. Ram rahim claimed that she was “Acupressure specialist” who would help ease his chronic back pain.
