Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat was assaulted and sprayed with teargas by masked attackers, who tried to steal her handbag in an upmarket area of Paris, the office of the Paris prosecutor said.

The 40-year-old celebrity and her friend were punched in the face by three masked men. The suspects then fled, leaving Ms. Sherawat and her friend to call emergency services.

The Incident took place just six weeks after reality TV star Kim Kardashian West was held at gunpoint and robbed in the French capital.

Sherawat, 40, and her French friend, Cyrille Auxenfans, said to police that, the men had ambushed them in the lobby of an apartment building in the chic 16th arrondissement of the French capital November 11.

CNN reported, a friend of Sherawat, said that, "She and her boyfriend got out of their car and they were entering the building but the doors took time to shut and had not shut when three masked men attacked them."

"They sprayed them with tear gas and pushed her to the ground and started hitting her boyfriend. One of them tried to grab her bag, but she pushed them away and started yelling and screaming. After a bit of a struggle they ran away," said the friend.
