Women bouncers fight off rape attempt

Two women bouncers working at a private event management company in Gurgaon had  managed to foil a rape attempt at the gunpoint in a moving car. The incident took place in the early hour at around 5 am when the women, took a lift to home after completing their night shift.

Recounting the incident, the women, who did not want to be identified, said that there were two men in the vehicle when they have boarded it at the MG Road.

The incident was like, 10 minutes after they boarded the vehicle , the man who was driving the stopped by the side of the road, claiming that the man in the passenger seat has to get off.

“They said he needed to take his bag from the back of the vehicle, and he got into the seat next to us under that pretext. He then put his arm around my friend. When we asked him to behave himself, he started hitting us,” alleged one of the women. “I tried to open the door so we could escape, but it was locked,” she said.

The man who was driving then pulled out a pistol and asked them to hand over their valuables, and relieved off their phones, chains around their necks and the salaries of Rs 28,000 each. After this, one of the men tried to rape them.

“After we gave them our things, the driver’s accomplice tried to force himself on my friend. She couldn’t fight him because he was on top of her. I tried to fight, but they hit me with their hands and the butt of the pistol,” said one of the women.

“I realised that we were in a do or die situation. The only thought in my head was to get to the steering wheel and make the vehicle crash so that we could escape,” she said. She managed to do this near the IFFCO Chowk and the car crashed into a divider.

They managed to get out of the vehicle and a crowd began to gather, the men ran away with their valuables. One of them was caught, when returned to collect his phone, the women said.

“I think he felt that he would not be noticed in the crowd and the confusion, so he returned, but my friend and I recognised him. Bystanders caught him and handed him over to the police,” said the woman.

A case has been registered at the DLF Phase 2 police station. “We questioned the man, who led us to the one driving the vehicle,” said Station House Officer Sandeep Singh.

The driver is identified as Vikas, who is from Aligarh and is residing at Gurgaon’s Firoz Gandhi colony. His accomplice, Pavan, hails from the Bahadurgarh and resides in the Partap Nagar in Gurgaon, said the police.
