TV actor and Balika Vadhu fame Pratyusha Banerjee, 24, probably had undergone an abortion days before her alleged suicide as she was pregnant, adding another twist to the case. This was confirmed by the doctors from JJ Hospital according to revelations made on the basis of histopathological examination of uterus tissues.  Exact gestational age was not confirmed by the report.

TOI quoted a source close to the investigation that, "The findings showed that there was a conception few days or a month before her demise, and there was a premature death of the foetal cell. The products of conception, or the placental or foetal tissue in the uterus found following delivery, termination of pregnancy or a miscarriage, were infected and degenerated. That usually hints towards a secondary infection, probably occurring due to an attempt to terminate the pregnancy."

However, experts say that it will be tough time for police to establish the paternity of the child. According to an expert, "Since there are no tissues left or rather they were removed, it may be challenging to carry out a DNA test to establish the child's paternity."

As per the investigations carried out after her death, Pratyusha was in a troubled relationship with Rahul Raj Singh, who was her fiance and actor-producer.

Dean Dr TP Lahane said, "We cannot reveal the findings. The report has been handed over to the police." Simultaneously, several departments are working together for the establishment of the exact cause of the death of Pratyusha.
